What is stock photography? The majority of the photography you see every day in the world around you has been licensed from a stock photography agency. Stock agencies have large searchable libraries that cater to both large and small advertising agencies and designers in many diverse fields. The need for fresh and quality imagery is never ending.
As a contributing photographer for iStockPhoto and Getty Images, I provide photography for their collections and shoot a wide variety of subject material. Many of my sessions include people, so I'm always in need of models with a look and style that are commercially viable. No experience is necessary. Experienced models are also welcome if they'd like to build their portfolio with my style. The agencies I work with are stock photography resources and handle image licensing for use in magazines, newspapers, television, product packaging, calendars, greeting cards, books, websites, etc. The photos are available on an international level. Photos are not allowed to be used for any purpose that would be considered pornographic or defamatory. What kind of pictures do you take for these sessions?Lifestyle, as in people enjoying life, doing things together, interacting, working, and having fun. There would also be some posed portrait shots. These sessions can take place in my studio, your home, or some other location. The possibilities for these sessions are endless and I'm always open to new ideas.
My models usually comment that they find these sessions to be a lot of fun. I strive for natural expressions, so helping my models feel comfortable is what I do :) By viewing the slideshow below, you will gain a better understanding of some of the possibilities. Click on the play button to view. The show will begin playing as soon as download is complete, which on fast connections will only be a moment. (More information is available below the slideshow.) How are these sessions different from a portrait session? One difference is that all people, regardless of age, will need a signed model release. Parents/guardians will need to sign for models under 18 years of age.Another difference is that these sessions are free to you. My regular portrait sessions without a signed model release are $350. Contact me if you would like to schedule a regular session. Scheduling of these sessions is dependent on the commercial viability and the needs of the stock agencies that I work with. Commercial modeling sessions are for the purpose of creating images for commercial use. I will, however, do my best to accommodate special requests. Tell me about the model release? You can view it online by clicking here. I'll provide you with a print version ready for signatures if we do a session together.
What about the privacy of my personal information contained on the model release? The stock photo agencies I work with have strict terms and conditions concerning privacy as do I. Your personal information will never be released to those who license my images. What do I get?You get a CD of all the finished images as high resolution JPEG files. You will also be given a limited copyright release for personal use which allows you to have the images printed at a lab of your choice. If you are a business owner, you have permission to use the photos in your marketing. I do work with a professional print lab if you would like me to handle your printing. That option will be available through your private online gallery which is also provided free of charge.
The agencies do not disclose who licenses the images, however, it's not uncommon to find the photos in use. On my Daydreams Art site, I do post sightings as I am made aware of them.
